Another post...
Well, it seems my poor little blogspot has been rejected lately. To make up for the lack of enthusiam on my part, I'll post a nice little update for the many people (sarcasm here) who read it!
Last week, I went back to BJU to help out with the string orchestra camp. I loved getting to spend every waking moment with the other three music counselers, Richard Jones (a fellow string orchestra-er), Kathryn Hughes, and Jon Kilpatrick. Somehow, we all clicked the first day, and events throughout the week would soon make us fast friends!
Some of my duties during the week included helping Richard teach the cello MIT (musician-in-training...an "elective" the campers could choose out of a big list to learn about a new instrument/musical skill), walk the kids from meals to their sessions, play in faculty recitals, run the ping-pong, foosball, and airhockey tournaments, lead a team during the game night (at which point I lost my voice for 4 days) and be the all-around "gopher" for Mr. Pinner.
Ahh, camp days. I went to BJU music camp for three years before college, and let me tell ya...it's much nicer being on the other end of the authority chain. After putting the campers to bed, the four of us "music counselers" would head out for some icecream, or other dainties. One night almost got us in a lot of hot water...but that's another story. :-)
So, by the end of the week, I'd made a ton of new friends, hopefully convinced a lot of aspiring musicians that BJU was definitely "The Opportunity Place", and still learned a lot, even if I was a counseler. Cause, I mean, come on...who says that the counselers know everything?
I wish I had pictures to post, but, alas, I do not. There isn't time during camp to take pictures...even if you're a counseler.
Here's a post. Take it or leave it. Yes, I went back to the bubble to give up a week of my vacation for minimum pay and nasty food. Yes, I was out after midnight with boys. Yes, I wore pants in front of the dorms. Yes, I got sick the first day, lost my voice on the fourth, and sounded like a goose for the rest of it.
And loved every minute of it.
